Our firm’s journey has spanned several transformations since its founding in 1957 as Schaefer & Schirmer. It evolved in 1960 to Schaefer, Schirmer & Eflin, then in 1972 to Schaefer, Schirmer & Associates, and by 1979, became Schaefer & Associates, PA. In 1984, it transitioned again to Schaefer, Johnson, Cox, Frey & Associates, PA, and in 2011, rebranded as SJCF Architecture. Last year, in April 2023, our firm proudly adopted our current identity as Schaefer Architecture, Inc., embodying its rich history of growth and adaptation. The Schaefer namesake has remained constant throughout all of the changes in leadership; with this most recent rebrand, it has been brought to the forefront yet again, highlighting Robert Schaefer’s profound impact on our company, culture, and legacy.

Honoring Our Past, Shaping the Future

Although many things have changed over the past six decades, an attribute of our firm that has persisted is our client-centric approach to projects.

The outcome of a project is not only determined by numbers and deadlines but also heavily influenced by client satisfaction. It has always been clear to our team at Schaefer that our success is about much more than us. As we see it, true success only happens with great owners. Our firm’s philosophy is that if we can bring a client’s vision to life, then that is a job well done.

We understand that impactful architecture results from working with visionary clients, which is why we feel fortunate to serve the clientele that we do. The fruition of our clients’ visions have produced iconic buildings such as the B-29 Doc Hangar and Education Center, Exploration Place, Riverfront Stadium, and Wichita Art Museum, as well as various Greater Wichita YMCA projects and numerous Pre-K through twelfth-grade educational facilities. These projects showcase our dedication to quality design, innovation, and community, just scratching the surface of our rich history.

Reflecting on our 68-year journey of design excellence evokes nostalgia, but growth propels our firm forward. Founded on the principles of honesty, continued learning, and imagination, Schaefer is well-equipped to match the pace of our ever-evolving world.
