Early Learning Center at South YMCA

The remodel of the Early Learning Center at the South YMCA is the building’s first since its inception in 1999. The original build offered an open layout, which lead to a noisy and disruptive environment for children of all ages, the addition of half-partition walls between similar age groups and full-height walls between different age groups creates a more controlled, safe and productive learning space for children and instructors.

Mood-boosting natural light floods into the classrooms, upgraded lighting and finishes provide playful, creative and functional spaces for children to thrive. Durable wall protection was installed throughout high traffic areas to prevent damage and maintain a clean, professional appearance. Luxury vinyl tile was added to enhance both acoustics and aesthetics.  Creative space planning allowed restrooms to be positioned in areas where children of similar ages are able to share.

Aside from the plethora of interior updates, updates were made to meet both ADA standards and current KDHE licensing requirements. The additional square-footage added allows for the Early Learning Center to expand from eighty-two (82) to ninety-eight (98) children, which helps to meet the high demand for childcare in the community.
