Hutchinson Community College Fire Science Building

Hutchinson Community College’s fire science building is not your average college classroom. To create a building that’s as sturdy and dependable as the current and future fire fighters who use it, the exterior walls and roof are constructed from three-inch thick insulated panels that create a sealed envelope around the entire structure.

The building has a large, multi-purpose, common area that holds large meetings, provides space for resting, or allows room to arrange gear and hoses. It also has several standard classrooms and a large, tiered lecture room. Its most unique feature is a two-story home layout that can be filled with water vapor, allowing students an experience similar to that of being in a home that is filled with smoke.
