Maize Career Academy

Maize Career Academy gives students an opportunity to try advanced career studies while meeting the district’s need for 21st century learning environments, community engagement, and student safety. Located on the Maize High School campus, the 40,000 sq. ft. Career Academy serves both high schools in the district as well as various community events. The commons space features natural light while collaborative furniture and technology was considered to meet the needs of the multi-use space. Collaboration hubs serve as breakout spaces, featuring writable surfaces for hands-on learning. Branding was also incorporated through the use of a custom wallcovering, signage, furniture, and lighting to give the building its own identity in the district.

Schaefer worked closely with the district to design 21st century classroom environments that meet the unique needs of the students and teachers. The Career Academy also features a storm shelter and broadcasting studio, which will develop and broadcast news & events to the entire district. Other advanced career curriculums in the academy include: Nursing, Graphic Design, Horticulture, Meteorology, Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Culinary & Baking, Forensic Science and Fire Science.

“I have felt as if they are a part of our staff, equally committed to our district mission and doing what’s best for our students.”
